We're thrilled to announce the release of Tapioca 1.3, our biggest update yet. This release introduces our new AI-powered scheduling engine, designed to take the guesswork out of project planning.
What's New in 1.3
The centerpiece of this release is our AI Scheduling Engine. Unlike traditional scheduling tools that require manual assignment, Tapioca now analyzes your team's capacity, skills, and current workload to automatically suggest optimal task assignments.
Intelligent Task Assignment
The scheduler considers multiple factors when making recommendations:
- Team capacity - Respects working hours, time off, and existing commitments
- Skill matching - Matches tasks to team members with relevant expertise
- Priority weighting - Ensures high-priority tasks get assigned first
- Dependencies - Schedules dependent tasks in the correct order
- Load balancing - Distributes work evenly across the team
What-If Analysis
Not sure how a new project will affect your timeline? The what-if analysis feature lets you simulate adding tasks or changing priorities without committing to the changes. See how potential changes ripple through your schedule before making decisions.
# Example CLI usage
tapioca schedule suggest --project my-project
tapioca schedule what-if --add-task "New feature" --estimate 8h Automation Rules
Beyond scheduling, we've added a powerful automation rules engine. Create rules that automatically update task status, send notifications, or trigger webhooks based on conditions you define.
"We've seen teams reduce their planning overhead by 60% after adopting the AI scheduler. What used to take hours of back-and-forth now happens automatically."
Getting Started
The AI scheduling features are available to all users on all plans - including the free Community and Team tiers. To start using the scheduler:
- Ensure your team members have skills and capacity configured in their profiles
- Navigate to your project's Planner view
- Click "AI Schedule" to generate recommendations
- Review and accept the suggestions, or adjust as needed
What's Next
We're already working on the next major release, which will include enhanced financial forecasting with machine learning predictions and deeper integration with calendar providers. Stay tuned!
As always, Tapioca is open source and we welcome contributions. Check out our GitHub repository to get involved.
